My Top 5 Anime Waifus (Spoilers ahead duh)

 Number 5: Mai Sakurajima - Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

   Mai-San has all the makings of a top-tier Waifu with the added bonus of the anime not actually waiting till the very end to show their main love interests in an actual relationship. The first three episodes of Bunny Girl Senpai honestly feel like they could have been a standalone film and the rest of the show is an added treat on top. Mai-San is the perfect example of successfully balancing both a demanding career and a relationship and that earns her a position as a true waifu.

Number 4: Kurisu Makise - Steins;Gate 

    The story of Christina is one of endless support, so much of what makes a Waifu good is the quality of her relationship with the main character and throughout the chronological three weeks in which Steins;Gate takes place she is a rock in which the suffering protagonist Okabe can rely on unquestioningly. Her personality, that of a brilliant scientist willing to indulge the seemingly insane Okabe out of sheer curiosity and then out of affection as well as having the hidden alter ego of a bonafide otaku make her a great pick for number 4. 

Number 3: Holo - Spice and Wolf


    Everyone's favorite Wolf goddess Holo brings a lot to the table, from her wit and humor to her endless desire for more alcohol. Her intentions are always difficult to discern with a longing to return home and a longing for company. Her conversations with Lawrence make up the bulk of the entertainment in the Anime but that was enough to get me hooked on what was my first light novel and what a delightful feeling it was.

Number 2: Yukino Yukinoshita - My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU


    Blunt, brash, and brutal are a few words to describe Yukino, the Snow Queen at the top of Sobu Academy. In a rare case of a love interest developing side by side with the main character, we see Yukino come out of her shell and slowly but surely become more and more humanized. As someone very famous once said "the ending is paramount" and the end of SNAFU was an extremely rewarding conclusion to three seasons worth of build-up.

Number 1: Saber - Fate/Stay Night


    One of the greatest tragedies in the history of anime barring the lack of both Haruhi Suzumiya and Spice and Wolf season 3 is the lack of a proper adaptation of the Fate route of Fate/Stay Night. But I will say discounting terrifying CGI dragons, the 2006 adaptation does capture some of the magic of the Visual Novel. And shining through is my pick for the greatest waifu in Anime history, her badassery is second to none as she fights her way through the holy grail war. But while her martial prowess is legendary, it is the moments where she is most vulnerable, meekly asking for seconds or enjoying cute things on her date with Shiro, its the successful fusion of the male fantasy heroine and a wholesome core that makes her my top spot.

The Silent Death of the Death Penalty

     There has been a silent shift among Catholics and maybe even conservatives more broadly on the question of the death penalty. While the death penalty had been a contentious issue in the 70s and 80s with Michael Dukakis having sunk his campaign with not answering YES! unequivocally when asked in a debate on whether he would favor its use in the circumstance of his wife being raped and killed, and then saying that that's why grieving family members shouldn't be in charge of the legal system.        Monarchism did not come naturally to me or any other American Monarchist I suspect; the concept was there, and it wasn’t. It was King Arthur and his Knights; it was Shakespeare, it was something foreign, European in a way that didn’t make sense to our way of life. I was always some sort of conservative even as a youth, but I could never answer that philosophical question of what was conservatism? Was it to conserve something in society in policy? A way of life? Conservatism in 1950 obviously did not look the same as conservatism in 2010 so what then?
